Lead Engineer — Gas Turbine Component Reverse Engineering
Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer with strong Siemens NX expertise to support Gas Turbine part development and reverse engineering programs for a leading Gas Turbine Services client. The role involves converting legacy data, physical parts, and scan/CMM data into high-quality designs, while ensuring material compatibility, manufacturability, and intellectual property (IP) compliance across repair, MRO, and new part development activities.
Who we are looking for
We are not counting years of experience. We are looking for capability.
If you are exceptional, your background and experience level will not hold you back — we will place you in a leadership role and back you to deliver. Even if you are early in your career but have the instincts, the curiosity and the rigor of a seasoned engineer, we want to hear from you.
We are looking for a mechanical engineer who understands gas turbine components deeply enough to take an existing part, interrogate it, and reverse engineer it to a fully defined, manufacturable design. Someone who can work from physical hardware, legacy drawings, material evidence and operational context — and produce design documentation that stands up to engineering scrutiny.
If your experience begins and ends with modelling or drafting, this role is not for you. If you have owned a design problem from first principles through to a defined output — and have the thinking to show for it — read on.
What you will do
- Reverse engineer gas turbine components from physical hardware, reference drawings and operational data
- Define functional and operational requirements from evidence rather than specification
- Generate and evaluate design concepts, conduct trade-off studies and justify design decisions
- Produce detailed design documentation with DFM, cost engineering and process quality in mind
- Conduct and contribute to risk assessments (DFMEA/PFMEA)
- Support prototyping, testing, validation and qualification activities
- Lead a small team to deliver project milestones on time, where capability warrants it
What you bring
Non-negotiable
- A genuine understanding of gas turbine components — how they function, how they are loaded, how they fail
- Ability to reason from physical evidence and incomplete information to a defensible engineering position
- End-to-end design thinking — from requirements and constraints through to a manufactured, qualified part
- Exposure to steady state high speed rotating machinery
Strongly preferred
- Hands-on reverse engineering experience with aero or industrial gas turbine components
- Familiarity with formal risk assessment methodologies (DFMEA, PFMEA)
- Cost engineering and DFM awareness baked into your design instinct
- Experience coordinating or leading small cross-functional teams
Preferred Component Exposure:
• Bladed components (blades, vanes, nozzles)
• Rotating and stationary gas turbine hardware
Good to have exposure: Discs, shafts, spacers, casings, rings, seals
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• Strong hands-on experience with Siemens NX (Modeling & Drafting)
• Experience in reverse engineering of mechanical or aero-engine components
• Knowledge of gas turbine materials and operating environments
• Strong understanding of material compatibility, GD&T, and DFM/DFR
• Experience working with incomplete or legacy data
• Background in MRO or aftermarket engineering
Desirable Skills:
• Experience with gas turbine services or OEM support programs
• Exposure to scan data, point clouds, or CMM inspection reports
• Familiarity with ASME / ISO drafting standards
• Working knowledge of PLM tools (Teamcenter preferred)
Soft Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and quality mindset
• Clear technical communication
• Ability to work independently in a delivery-focused environment
What This Role Offers:
• Exposure to critical gas turbine reverse engineering programs
• End-to-end involvement across repair, MRO, and part development
• Technical growth in NX-based gas turbine engineering
