General Summary : The physician assistant to the peripheral vascular program works closely with the Director of Endovascular Interventions on a daily basis. The physician assistant will work collaboratively on a regular basis with the peripheral vascular coordinator regarding program development. The Physician Assistant functions in an advanced clinical role to provide medical services to individuals, families, and groups. Comprehensive physical examination and health assessment are used to promote health, prevent disease, and diagnose and manage common acute and stable chronic disease. Other services include but are not limited to ordering/conducting/interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, and making appropriate referrals. The Physician Assistant may be required to provide the above function in the office setting as well as the inpatient setting and cath lab setting. The Physician Assistant may need to be available on an on-call basis according to a rotation schedule which the specific practice establishes. The Physician Assistant maybe required supervising cardiac stress testing and/or any other appropriate cardiac/vascular procedures. Some travel to conferences may be necessary for professional development. Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Physician Assistant demonstrates a high level of critical thinking skills in order to apply medical knowledge in establishing accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans. Able to write orders as appropriate under direction of attending cardiologist and as per guide lines of Metro Health Hospital. Able to present patient information/updates/clinical changes to the attending cardiologist in a clear and effective manner. Able to prioritize daily responsibilities in order to maintain high level of patient care. Dictate H P and/or consult note and/or office note under direction of attending cardiologist. Round on assigned inpatients daily and provide attending cardiologist with pertinent clinical information in order to prioritize daily patient care. Assist with education and communication with patients and families as appropriate during the hospitalization. Assist with admissions and discharges of patients. Diagnoses and treats common acute illnesses and injuries, and stable chronic medical conditions. Recognizes conditions requiring consultation with a physician and/or referrals to physicians, and makes appropriate referrals and consultations to ensure continuity of care. Acts as patient advocate, crossing multidisciplinary lines to meet patient needs and to address systems issues, which affect healthcare delivery. Will be available to provide direct supervision of cardiac stress testing and to assess and treat any acute cardiac or peripheral vascular problem that may occur during stress testing. Maintain standards of the medical record as per guidelines of Metro Health Hospital. Other duties as assigned. #P
