Job Description

About 1X

We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.

About the Team

The Hands team is responsible for developing one of the most complex and important subsystems in humanoid robotics: dexterous manipulation. We design, prototype, test, and iterate rapidly to create robotic hands capable of interacting with the world safely, reliably, and with human-like precision.

Working across mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls, and software disciplines, the team moves quickly from concept to hardware, relying on rapid prototyping and hands-on experimentation to accelerate development.

Your Charter

Build, debug, and validate the prototypes that enable the Hands team to move faster. You will support the development of robotic hand systems by fabricating mechanical hardware, bringing up electronics, testing integrated assemblies, and helping engineers rapidly iterate on new designs.

As a Hardware Technician, you'll play a critical role in turning engineering concepts into functional prototypes, helping bridge the gap between design and real-world performance.

Key Outcomes

  • Accelerate development cycles by delivering high-quality prototypes, assemblies, and hardware modifications on aggressive timelines

  • Support successful PCB and electromechanical bring-up through effective debugging, testing, and validation activities

  • Improve prototype quality and reliability by identifying issues early and providing actionable feedback to engineering teams

  • Build and maintain documentation that enables repeatable assembly, testing, and future design iterations

  • Support cross-functional teams by ensuring mechanical, electrical, and firmware systems integrate smoothly into robotic hand platforms

Key Competencies

  • Strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills across mechanical and electrical systems

  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities with the confidence to diagnose issues across hardware and integrated systems

  • Ability to move quickly while maintaining high standards for quality and attention to detail

  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working closely with engineers across multiple disciplines

  • Ownership mindset with a willingness to take initiative and solve problems independently

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting hardware development in robotics, automotive, consumer electronics, or related industries

  • Experience using electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and data acquisition tools

  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent

  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, manual machining, and general fabrication tools

  • Experience documenting assembly processes, test procedures, and development activities

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with robotic systems, actuators, or mechatronic assemblies

  • Experience performing PCB bring-up, firmware flashing, component rework, and hardware validation

  • Experience designing and building custom test fixtures or validation rigs

  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, automated testing, and scripting tools

  • Experience supporting rapid prototyping efforts in fast-paced product development environments

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like?

$25.96 - $48.46 per hour + Equity

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave

  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options

  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)

  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
