Job Description
A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
An employee assigned to this classification performs entry level surveying tasks including the operation of equipment such as chainsaws, machetes and other tools and is expected to learn the use and operation of all survey equipment that the department owns.
Work is performed under the direction, close supervision and/or general supervision of a higher level supervisor in accordance with specific instructions, defined procedures, and schedules. Work is reviewed while in progress, through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with the County's core values.
Measures and records horizontal distances and vertical heights; digs for control monuments; marks and drives stakes and iron rods.
Clears line-of-sight using machete, chainsaw and other tools to clear brush and trees.
Assists higher level staff as rodman and/or field assistant.
Maintains and inspects field equipment and supplies on work vehicle daily.
Drives a County vehicle and/or personal vehicle to work sites in order to perform survey duties.
Keeps survey vehicle clean and orderly.
Utilizes and operates all department owned survey equipment for proper use as necessary.
May occasionally be required to work out of class as a Survey Technician.
Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

Some knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to accurately read various measuring devices.
Ability to perform job assignments under adverse physical conditions.
Ability to understand the use and operate all department owned survey equipment.
Ability to safely operate equipment such as chainsaws, machetes, and other tools.
Ability to write in a clear penmanship.
Ability to understand the standards of practice to surveying.
Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain while carrying survey equipment.
Ability to understand and follow voice and hand commands.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and works in close proximity to heavy equipment and high speed traffic. The employee may be required to walk through wet and rough terrain.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional exposure to traffic, heavy equipment and chainsaws.
