
Assistant Deli Manager
Job Description
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, safety, and team performance. This role helps drive sales, manage labor, maintain compliance, and develop associates while ensuring the department operates efficiently and profitably.
Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Operations & Execution
- Support daily deli operations including production, merchandising, ordering, and inventory control
- Ensure fresh, high-quality products are prepared and displayed according to company standards
- Maintain accurate production planning, shrink control, and waste reduction practices
- Assist with opening, closing, and overall department organization and cleanliness
Customer Experience
- Model and promote excellent customer service standards
- Address customer questions, requests, and concerns promptly and professionally
- Ensure service counters, hot cases, and self-service areas are fully stocked and visually appealing
Team Leadership & Training
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching deli associates
- Lead daily work assignments and support proper labor deployment
- Provide performance feedback, recognition, and corrective coaching as needed
- Foster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused team environment
Food Safety, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standards
- Enforce personal hygiene, cleaning schedules, and safe food-handling procedures
- Support compliance with company policies, health department regulations, and safety programs
- Assist with inspections, audits, and corrective action plans
Sales, Labor & Planning
- Support execution of promotions, ads, and seasonal programs
- Help manage labor to align with sales volume and operational needs
- Review department performance metrics and assist with improvement plans
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Previous experience in deli, food service, or retail leadership preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Strong customer service, communication, and coaching skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
