Classroom Assistant

Reverend George A. Brown Memorial School, a PreK - Grade 4 school located in Sparta, NJ, is seeking a Classroom Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent, college level work in education or related field.
2. Successful experience working with children.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
4. Successful completion of the criminal background check and completion of virtus
training.
5. Basic understanding of the Catholic faith and the willingness to support and carry out
the mission of the school.

REPORTS TO: Certified Classroom teacher, principal, and assistant principal.

JOB GOAL: To assist the classroom teacher by working with individual and small groups of
students to provide support and help all students maximize their educational opportunities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist the classroom teacher with the general care of all of the students in the classroom.
2. Assist with individual and small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher
and reinforce material that is initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Assist the students in moving through the school building.
4. Assist the special teachers with the students when the class has art, music, library, gym
Spanish and makerspace.
5. Assist and monitor the students in the cafeteria during lunch.
6. Supervise the students at recess on the playground.
7. Help with supervision of students on planned field trips.
8. Complete clerical duties assigned by the classroom teacher.
9. Cover other classes as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.
10. Cover other duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.
 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly salary agreed upon at date of hire. No more than 29.5
hours per week, no benefits.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the building principal and
based on the needs of the school for the following school year.

Hourly Wage:  $17.00 - $18.00/hour
