Job Description

Roles

This is a senior leadership role that blends deep technical authority with strategic team management. The Engineering Lead will be overall responsible for ensuring the technical excellence, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance of renewable energy projects across their entire lifecycle — from early-stage development through construction and operations.

To manage a diverse portfolio including Solar, BESS, Onshore Wind, and Data Centres, while also collaborating with our Offshore Wind Engineering team as required.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Solar & BESS and GEE engineering teams, ensuring high performance and accountability.
  • Oversee all engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimations across multiple asset types.
  • Guide Solar PV system architecture, including module layout, DC design, and mechanical integration.
  • Support grid connection processes (SIS, GCA, SCC/SCA), authority engagement, and regulatory reviews.
  • Lead technical reviews for RFQ packages, contract agreements, and procurement strategies.

Project Delivery

  • Render technical oversight from early development through construction and commissioning.
  • Ensure constructability, buildability, and technical compliance during EPCm delivery.
  • Strengthen project delivery by supporting construction managers and instituting proactive controls for site-level technical risks
  • Validate site conditions, review designs, and resolve technical issues during commissioning.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Align engineering deliverables with Development, BD, Permitting, EPC, and Construction teams.
  • Interface with utilities, authorities, consultants, and contractors across all project phases.

Standards, Quality & Optimization

  • Lead yield estimation, benchmarking, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Drive design optimization to improve performance, reduce LCOE, and enhance project competitiveness.
  • Develop and implement internal standards, design tools, workflows, and documentation.
  • Lead periodic reporting cycles, analyzing engineering progress, KPIs, and milestone status to drive project visibility and accountability.

Team Development & Organizational Growth

  • Mentor & coach junior and senior engineers; promote continuous learning and technical upskilling.
  • Review the resources and team structure in alignment with project pipeline requirements.
  • Champion Vena Energy’s TECH values: Communication, Collaboration, Entitlement, Quality, Proactiveness.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Vena’s Technical Services Organization and Culture.

Pre-Requisites

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related technical field.
  • At least 10 years in engineering leadership roles for renewable energy projects, including team management responsibilities in Japan.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical system design (SLD, DC/AC layouts, cable sizing, substations, SCADA).
  • Experience in cost and yield benchmarking, and design optimization to maximize performance and minimize LCOE.
  • Experience with grid connection process in Japan (SIS, GCA, SCC/SCA).
  • Strong technical background in Solar, BESS, grid engineering, or related fields.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting EPC/EPCm project delivery, construction coordination, and commissioning.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive, disciplined, and collaborative leadership style aligned with Vena’s values.
