POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Payroll Specialist will assist the Manager of Payroll Services with the university compliance as it pertains to tax operations and all payroll compliance operating requirements. This position will assist with the processing of payroll and development of NRA and payroll related policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Manage the Non-Resident Alien process to ensure accurate withholding and reporting throughout the year.
• End to end processing of either Bi-Weekly and Semi-Monthly payrolls.
• Assist with the preparation and filing of the annual withholding tax return for U.S. source income of foreign persons (Form 1042S) and employee W-2s.
• Prepare Quarterly Reports for 941 and NYS45 filings.
• Track regular payroll and off cycle tax liabilities and send funding templates to finance.
• Understand federal and state statutes and apply them to residents and non-resident employees ensuring university compliance.
• Timely collection of international employees’ documents to properly analyze their tax status.
• Perform a thorough review of visa and related documents that support the tax set up of international students and employees.
• Respond to employee and student payroll and tax inquiries providing exceptional service and support.
• Maintain data integrity of tax related and payroll information within the Banner and International Tax Systems.
• Perform continuous audit to maintain the integrity of data relating to employee payroll and tax set up.
• Assist with management of and the processes related to Payroll Unclaimed Property. 

• Understand NYS statutes and how it applies to university unclaimed wages.

• Partner with University Treasury Department to develop procedures to track and post unclaimed wages to the general ledger.
• Establish a system that identifies by calendar year all outstanding paychecks and steps taken to validate repayment to intended party.
• Partner with HR to test system interface updates, patches and support new implementations.
• Facilitate off cycle payments for adjustments, missed payments or returns.
• Review of payroll employee maintenance tasks prior to each payroll.
• Support all system implementation and upgrade efforts.
• Other duties as assigned.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-4 years experience in a Payroll Department.
  • Prior knowledge of international tax compliance; research and problem analysis.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax reporting.

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships and interact with other employees, students, and external vendors in a courteous     and friendly manner.   
• The ability to interpret, apply and initiate internal policies in conjunction with external regulations (treaties and tax law).
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing numerous deadlines and effectively exchanging information both       verbally and in writing.
• Possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
• Ability to quickly learn and utilize new systems.
• Demonstrated commitment and track record in implementing continuous improvement techniques and processes.


Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is listed below. Albert Einstein College of Medicine considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
Minimum Salary Range

USD $75,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary Range

USD $80,000.00/Yr.
