Job Description
The Senior BI developer position in the Business Intelligence team plays a leading key role in developing, supporting, and enhancing operational reporting using Cognos Analytics and Power BI.
Your role as Senior BI Developer
- Responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of dashboard development and maintenance. This includes designing, developing, and deploying interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that align with business requirements and industry best practices
- Optimise existing solutions to ensure high performance and scalability, implement version control, maintain thorough documentation, and conduct rigorous quality assurance testing on all deliverables
- Design and implement robust models using DAX, Power Query, and the M language, ensuring optimal performance through appropriate relationships and calculations
- Ability to work with On-Premise IBM Netezza, Databricks, SQL databases, APIs, cloud platforms, and flat files. Throughout this pipeline, you will be the primary guardian of data quality, integrity, and security
- Stakeholder management and training are also central to this position. You will collaborate closely with business partners to gather requirements, translating complex analytical needs into technical specifications and visual solutions
- Provide training and support to end-users, present insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, and advise the business on the specific capabilities and limitations of the Power BI platform
What you’ll bring…
- Candidates should possess substantial professional experience in business intelligence or data analytics, specifically demonstrating an expert-level, hands-on background in Power BI development and a proven track record of delivering complex BI solutions
- Technical mastery of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service is essential, underpinned by strong expertise in DAX and Power Query/M Code
- You must demonstrate advanced data modelling skills, including proficiency with star and snowflake schemas, dimensional modelling, and SQL database management systems such as SQL Server or Azure SQL
- A foundational understanding of data warehouse concepts and architecture is required
- In addition to technical skills, we seek individuals with strong analytical problem-solving abilities and a meticulous commitment to data accuracy
- Experience working within Agile or Scrum methodologies is beneficial for this role
- Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics, a strong grasp of UX principles for data visualization, and experience with row-level security or gateway configuration are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices for BI deployments is also a plus
