Duties and Responsibilities:

A Models-Based Systems Engineer at ACI is responsible for focusing on leveraging model-based systems engineering tools and practices to enable efficient planning, integration, and validation of tactical applications supporting situational awareness platforms. A successful Model-Based Systems Engineer at ACI will:
  • Develop and maintain SysML/UML-based models to support system architecture, behavior, interface definitions, and requirements traceability for ATAK plugins and core functionality.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into functional models that inform software development and integration plans.
  • Support system decomposition and definition of component-level interactions across ATAK plugins, core services, and TAK Server interfaces.
  • Collaborate with software developers, integration engineers, and program stakeholders to ensure alignment between modeled architecture and software implementation.
  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and design reviews as a representative of the systems engineering team.
  • Support verification and validation activities by aligning test cases with modeled requirements and scenarios.
  • Contribute to documentation deliverables, including interface control documents (ICDs), system design documents (SDDs), and modeling standards.
  • Design and implement network solutions, including LAN/WAN/VPN architectures and secure topologies.
  • Troubleshoot complex system and network issues, utilizing both hands-on diagnostics and automated tools.
  • Apply network security best practices to protect systems and data from internal and external threats.
  • Write scripts for automation and system management using Python and PowerShell.
  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary R&D projects, integrating scientific and engineering approaches.
  • Maintain technical documentation including system diagrams, configuration guides, and SOPs.
A Model-Based Systems Engineer who fits our team is:

Dynamic: contributes energy and enthusiasm to our daily tasks, to the team’s interactions, and to the Company’s mission.
Thorough: possesses an unparalleled work ethic; produces complete, even polished products; persistent; mission-focused; asks “Why?” as often as necessary to get to the root of the matter.
Mature: respects others’ opinions, beliefs, and culture; listens to ideas, shares thoughts, and works independently and together to contribute insights to the company’s leaders.
Forthright: speaks with conviction; argues based on understanding, respectfully
Inquisitive: seeks deeper explanations of how systems work, not the surface-level description of the actors involved; goes beyond “stick-fetching” to connect the unconnected.
Timely: shows up, ready to think, prepared to get on with the day’s assignments; contributes analytical insights that meet time-sensitive, reasonable requests.
Honest: knows what’s right, what’s legal, what’s appropriate; acts accordingly.
