Technician - Micro lab - NL Quality Control - 1st Shift

  Job Title: Microbiology Lab Technician Reports To:  Microbiologist Job category:  Individual contributor  ☒          Management   ☐ Division: Quality Department: Quality Location: Manitowoc, WI         Description / Scope / Mission This position is responsible for conducting routine testing of samples for the analytical laboratory, detect pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, reporting data and investigating out-of-spec results.  The position will conduct routine testing and monitoring of USP water systems and clean suite, follow departmental standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI) and run quality assays.  This position is required to be familiar with basic plating, streaking, media types and aseptic techniques involved in laboratory work.     Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities Conduct microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished product. Conduct ongoing microbial testing of USP water system. Provide support for release testing of media and organisms for use in the lab. Provide input for writing and revising laboratory guidelines and SOPs. Provide support for environmental monitoring programs. Perform data generation/trending and calibration procedures. Keep the micro laboratory environment and activities in compliance to cGMP, also maintaining accurate records per cGMP. Apply skills in scientific techniques and principles, problem solving, organization of work and cost savings. Comply with procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures and safety procedures. Other duties as assigned.     Education / Certification / Qualifications / Experience BS in Microbiology/Chemistry or related sciences knowledge. SAP experience, desired.     License or Certification Required: None.     Physical Demands: Stand; use hands to finger, handle or touch; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl up to 1/3 of the time. Walk and sit 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. Talk or hear 2/3 and more of the time. Up to 10 pounds to be lifted or force to be exerted up to 1/3 of the time Up to 25 pounds to be lifted or force to be exerted up to 1/3 of the time. Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).   Tools/Equipment Used: Computer to be used 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. Lab equipment Microscope     Work Environment / PPE Required: Exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work with chemicals; and work/job related travel up to 1/3 of the time.
