Job Description

Job Title: Product Engineer

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Health Union powers the first and largest community-based activation and data platform, transforming healthcare by providing unparalleled support, information, and validation for millions navigating complex health conditions and their care teams. With over 125+ condition-specific online communities and 15 years of community leadership, Health Union’s authentic engagements fuel the company’s robust suite of endemic media, influencer marketing, market research, and data solutions, driving proven outcomes for patients, HCPs, and brands.

Position Overview:

Health Union is building a high-impact team of Product Engineers to elevate our business operations and augment the incredible work of our teams. Our goal is to move beyond simple automation, focusing instead on building AI agents that unlock new potential for our workforce, clients and communities. In this role, you will collaborate across the organization to deliver scalable, effective AI solutions that enhance our capabilities and help realize our strategic vision of an even more impactful and efficient Health Union.

What You Do:

  • Partner with technical and functional stakeholders to understand process requirements, then build and deploy the agents that solve them. We’ve had early success with Claude Code and Cowork, but things change fast.
  • Drive the full software development lifecycle being upended by AI: rapid prototyping, prompt engineering, context management, evals, observability, and iteration based on real-world performance.
  • Own what you ship after launch. Refine prompts, catch regressions, and keep agents sharp as models and business needs evolve.
  • Stay current with the latest AI trends, and share your learnings with our tech team and business stakeholders.

What You Bring:

  • 1-2 years of software engineering experience. We know you haven’t been building agents for 5 years.
  • Daily use of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.) to build solutions using languages like Elixir, Python, and/or JavaScript (Vue).
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, etc.) into custom solutions. If your day job isn’t there, we’re happy to hear about side projects.
  • Comfort with our preferred “tools of the trade” - cloud hosting (AWS), containerization (Docker), relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), monitoring (Datadog), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), version control (Git/GitHub), etc.
  • Ability to work within an established data model and enterprise data warehouse (Snowflake).
  • A security mindset while building on the frontier. Protecting data, reducing hallucinations, mitigating prompt injection, and architecting to avoid the “lethal trifecta.”
  • AI-native thinking: You don't retrofit AI onto legacy processes. You question the status quo and reason from a “blank page” about what agents can own, what they can't, and where humans must stay in control.
  • Business curiosity: You ask “why does this process exist?” before asking “how do I automate it?” Automation of a bad process is still a bad outcome.
  • Adaptability: Requirements will evolve. AI tools change fast. Flexibility is critical.
  • Empathy: Deeply caring about your colleagues, our community members, and our clients is the non-negotiable foundation of how we operate at Health Union.

Annual base salary for positions at this level and job group is $92,500 - $100,000, and your base pay will depend on the qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies required for this job.

At Health Union, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range that provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.

In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, a professional development budget, and paid time off available to full-time employees upon hire. You will also be granted time off for designated company-paid holidays, summer Fridays, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
