To support our mission, we are looking for a Payroll Specialist I to join the Payables, Payroll and Travel Department. This position is located at 101 E. 15th St, Austin, Texas.
TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Payroll Specialist I performs routine (journey-level) payroll processing work. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard. Employees may also occasionally assist other staff in performing job duties of greater complexity.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
- Process and reviews automated and manual employee payrolls in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Verify keyed Processes and reviews automated and manual employee payrolls in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain appropriate payroll processing controls and assists with setups of deductions, garnishments, voluntary deductions, termination, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificates (W-4s), and direct deposits, including returned monies and payment cancellations.
- Answer questions and resolves issues related to payroll matters and tax issues.
- Distribute paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
- Perform related work as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
-Six months of full-time experience in payroll processing work.
-Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
-Acceptance into a TWC Internship or TWC Apprenticeship will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
-12 months experience with auditing and administrative related duties.
-12 months experience using outlook, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word and SharePoint.
-12 months experience handling confidential data.
-12 months experience providing customer service.
-Knowledge of state governmental accounting, generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, office practices, governmental regulations applying to accounting records, and state and federal payroll rules, regulations, and laws.
-Skill in using a computer and applicable software.
-Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information, to review payroll accounting records, and to communicate effectively.
