Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Tool Specialist position is to provide a consistent and accurate tool inventory
tracking process to include correct inventory information into Company’s selected systems, and
an organized approach to tool inventory control.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain a consistent internal database regarding tool inventory levels and overall control, including updating part numbers, descriptions, costs, control counts, and other relevant data points.
  • Partner with the Purchasing and Branch Managers to analyze and determine optimal tool inventory levels.
  • Keep apprised on industry advancements including, and not limited to, tool and equipment enhancements; share information across the organization(s).
  • Streamline allocation of tool inventories across new and existing branches.
  • Develop and maintain database to include tool warranties, tool certifications, operation instructions to include repair procedures.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for correct tool use, companywide.
  • Recommend tools to optimize productivity across branches.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Department to ensure proper PPE, usage and compliance for tools used across the organization.
  • Support Purchasing Manager and/or Supply Chain Manager for tool inventory counts for new acquisitions and fiscal year end inventories, upon request.
  • Develop reporting for leadership related to buying and inventory metrics, upon request of Purchasing Manager.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers, up and down chain of command, effectively.
  • Communicate with Billing department for correct billing information and costs.
  • Ensure accuracy throughout with acute attention to detail.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully, however in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.

Education, Training, Certifications:

  • Associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain management, preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED, with equivalent relevant experience, required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

  • 4 years Inventory Control
  • 2 years fire protection, related industry, or equivalent
  • 3 years of professional computer skills, preferred

Communication Skills:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees, customers and board or directors.

Systems and Software Skills:

  • Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office required

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, required
  • Must be able to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement
  • Must be able to travel 30% of the time.
  • Up to 10% Warehouse environment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for long periods. Employee will occasionally be required to drive, bend, kneel, balance, lift <50lb, walk, stand, ascend/descend stairs, reach above and below shoulders, stoop, and twist.

Work Environment:

Employee will consistently be required to work indoors in an office or remote setting, work alone and with others. Employee will occasionally be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies. Warehouse environment offers limited to no heating and/or air conditioning, open air environments subject to high amounts of dust and other air contaminants.
