e are hiring for a temporary Driver, Class B to join the Transportation Department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

What you’ll do:  Class B CDL’s transports vehicles, and equipment throughout Second Harvest’s network of Distribution Centers while maintaining reporting, operations, safety, and other duties as assigned by management. The driver maintains a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the organization and a favorable image of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Key Responsibilities:
 
May include, but not limited to the following: 
  • Transports and delivers a variety of products and materials.
  • Load donations utilizing proper storage methods and procedures.  
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles containing a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment.  
  • Operates Commercial vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.  
  • Regularly checks vehicles’ fluid levels, tire pressure and cleanliness according to Daily Vehicle Inspections.  
  • Reports potential safety issues and service needs to equipment Lead.  
  • Maintains transportation areas and warehouse equipment in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe manner.  
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.  
  • Maintain positive and successful working relationships with agency customers and donors. 
Safety and Maintenance:   
  • Observes OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations. 
  • Follow all company and regulatory agency safety policies.  
  • Obeys all traffic laws.  
  • Drives defensively.  
  • Reports any unsafe equipment or working conditions to supervisor.  
  • Reports any needed repairs or special maintenance to Equipment Supervisor immediately.  
  • Maintains a clean and functional vehicle.  
  • Follows the regular vehicle maintenance schedule, as provided by Equipment Supervisor.  
Other duties as assigned.   

Reports to:  Dispatch Supervisor and Director, Transportation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
 
When & Where:

HOURS

Monday – Friday, 4:00am – 4:00pm (shifts will fall within this time frame at 40 hours per week). 
Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required for meetings or special events.  
Occasional duties may be necessary, as well as responding to issues, outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response, community events, etc.).
   
TRAVEL

Routine daily travel within the service area. 
Occasional nighttime travel is required, up to 10% of work week within the local service area.  
Current driver’s license with copy of current auto insurance and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) results required.  

ESSENTIAL BUSINESS/ FIRST RESPONDER:

In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Second Harvest is typically considered an essential business service and emergency responder. All employees may be required to perform regular or emergent duties on-site. Employee safety is balanced with business and community necessity. Some positions are more likely to be required on-site than others.


Is this you?

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:             H.S. Diploma/GED required.

Experience:           1+ year of professional driving experience. 

Skills & Capabilities:
  • Maintain valid CDL Class B license. 
  • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification.  
  • Safely and effectively operate a Commercial vehicle.  
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations.  
  • Apply, interpret, and explain policies and procedures.  
  • Plan and organize work.  
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.  
  • Work effectively as a team member.  
  • Maintain documentation and records.  
  • Meet schedules and timelines.  
  • Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.  
  • Read maps and schedules and adhere to route schedules.  
  • Successfully complete required tasks in electronic route management system (tablets)
