Role Overview
We are looking for a talented and capable lawyer to serve as a strategic legal partner and own Trovy's regulatory, compliance, and legal function. You will be embedded across product, operations, marketing, and leadership teams, helping Trovy move fast while managing legal and regulatory risk with rigor across our lending and card businesses and our multi-state regulatory footprint. This is a high-ownership, cross-functional role reporting directly to the Chief Operating & Legal Officer.
What You'll Be Doing
Serve as Trovy's primary legal resource on federal consumer financial law, including TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA, ECOA/Regulation B, FCRA, HMDA, and HOEPA
Advise on state mortgage and lending law across a 26-state licensing footprint, including open-end credit, homestead, and right of rescission requirements
Own Trovy's compliance program, including the compliance management system, policies, and regulatory risk framework
Play a key role in planning and executing on new product launches — advising on regulatory requirements, structuring compliant product features, and supporting go-to-market from a legal and compliance perspective
Counsel product and engineering teams on regulatory requirements for new features
Advise on mortgage servicing requirements and ensure servicing practices meet applicable legal standards — including customer complaints, escalations, and non-standard servicing situations
Review HELOC agreements, cardholder agreements, change-in-terms notices, and consumer disclosures for accuracy and compliance
Advise on third-party and vendor relationships from a regulatory and compliance standpoint, including bank partner and service provider arrangements
Advise marketing on advertising copy, email, SMS, and digital content — applying UDAAP, TCPA, and truth-in-lending standards
Identify legal and compliance issues proactively, and collaborate with business teams to improve processes and ensure consistent application of legal requirements across Trovy's product suite
Track federal and state regulatory developments — rulemaking, guidance, enforcement actions — and advise leadership on implications for Trovy
Oversee licensing and regulatory relations
Support corporate matters including equity transactions, investor relations, and board governance from a legal perspective
Advise on privacy and data security obligations in a consumer financial services context
Assist with investor and corporate diligence on regulatory and legal matters as needed
Support outside counsel relationships and manage legal spend on matters within scope
What We're Looking For
J.D. and active bar admission
7+ years of legal experience with meaningful focus on consumer financial regulatory law — mortgage lending, open-end credit, or related consumer credit products
Deep knowledge of TILA/Regulation Z (including HELOC-specific rules), RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, and HOEPA
Hands-on experience with state mortgage or lending licensing and multi-state regulatory compliance
Experience managing federal or state regulatory examinations or supervisory processes
Fintech company, neobank, mortgage lender, or financial services startup experience
Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment and translate regulatory complexity into clear, actionable guidance
Strong judgment and intellectual honesty — comfortable giving direct advice under uncertainty
