General Summary

  • The Operating Room Core Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the inventory, organization, and availability of surgical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment to support efficient perioperative services. This position coordinates the receipt, storage, replenishment, and distribution of supplies throughout the Operating Room and Sterile Core while ensuring accurate inventory management and exceptional customer service. The Core Coordinator serves as a resource to clinical staff, collaborates with Sterile Processing, Materials Management, and departmental personnel, and supports uninterrupted surgical operations through effective supply chain management.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates the receipt, storage, organization, and distribution of surgical supplies and instrumentation throughout the Operating Room and Sterile Core, including items received from Sterile Processing, Central Supply, and the storeroom.
  • Pulls supplies and prepares case carts for scheduled and add-on surgical procedures, ensuring all required items are available and accurately staged.
  • Maintains established inventory PAR levels by replenishing stock, restocking supplies, and returning unused items to appropriate storage locations.
  • Performs routine physical inventory counts, reconciles inventory discrepancies, and participates in annual inventory activities to ensure accurate inventory records.
  • Manages daily Durable Medical Equipment (DME) requests and facilitates timely delivery of supplies and equipment to support patient care.
  • Utilizes computerized inventory management systems to track inventory, maintain accurate databases, and monitor supply utilization.
  • Serves as a resource to clinical staff regarding supplies and equipment while promoting collaboration, customer service, and effective communication across departments.
  • Collaborates with Materials Management, Sterile Processing, and departmental personnel to support efficient supply chain operations, continuous process improvement, and compliance with organizational standards.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Considerable mental concentration required to operate equipment and properly care for instruments and equipment. Standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lbs., reaching required.
  • Mental and Emotional Requirements: Works in close proximity to others and/or in a distracting environment.


Working Conditions

  • Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions during decontamination of instruments. Occasional exposure to temperature fluctuations, fumes, or airborne particles, exposure to communicable/infectious disease via contact with contaminated instruments and supplies. Must be able to work in a small, confined area for long periods of time.
