- Provide high-quality financial insights, advisory, and strategic guidance tailored to each client.
- Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements and management accounts.
- Support clients with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Technical Accounting
- Oversee end-to-end bookkeeping and accounting processes using Xero.
- Review and sign off on bank reconciliations and balance sheet items prepared by junior team members.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows across the client portfolio.
Team & Culture
- Act as a senior point of reference within the team, setting a high standard for quality and professionalism.
- Support the onboarding and development of junior staff as the team expands.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture where best practices are shared and maintained.
Process & Efficiency
- Drive process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation and workflow optimisation.
- Leverage tools such as Dext, Telleroo, and BrightPay to streamline operations.
- Collaborate with the Co-Founder to develop scalable internal processes as the firm grows.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Prior experience working in an accounting role for a UK-based business (practice or industry).
- Strong, hands-on experience with Xero - this is non-negotiable.
- Prior experience managing or supervising people - desirable but not essential; ambition to do so is key.
- Solid technical accounting knowledge, including preparation and review of financial statements.
Preferred
- A recognised professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent.
- Experience with Dext, Telleroo, BrightPay, or similar cloud accounting tools.
- Background in an SME-focused practice environment.
Soft Skills
- Strong communicator - able to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously.
- Proactive and solutions-focused, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- A natural mentor who takes pride in developing those around them.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary, reflective of experience, skills, and seniority.
- Performance-related incentives
- 20 days annual leave
- Flexibility to work remotely or from an office in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
- A genuine opportunity to shape the future of a growing, UK-focused accounting firm.
- A clear pathway to a senior leadership role, including people management, as the firm scales.
