Job Description:
Your new role
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Newton Aycliffe. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong electrical engineering background, who also has an appreciation or understanding of mechanical systems, to contribute to high-impact, technically complex projects.
Working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, you’ll play a key role in the design, development, and integration of electrical systems across a range of applications.
Some key responsibilities
Develop functional electrical schemes for systems and subassemblies
Produce detailed wiring diagrams, harness layouts and electrical documentation for production
Design electrical subassemblies, including cubicles, enclosures and external equipment
Define and specify electrical and electro-mechanical components
Prepare system and component technical specifications
Support integration and testing of electrical systems, including on-system validation
Conduct design reviews with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers
Collaborate across engineering disciplines, particularly where electrical and mechanical interfaces intersect
About you
You’ll be an Electrical Engineer with strong technical capability and a proactive mindset, comfortable working both independently and within cross-functional teams.
We’re particularly interested in candidates who bring:
A solid foundation in electrical engineering principles and design
Experience producing schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
An understanding or exposure to mechanical systems or electro-mechanical integration
Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, Catia or electrical design software (e.g. E3 Zuken)
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse technical requirements
Effective communication skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline, with relevant experience)
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience within the rail industry or other highly regulated engineering environments
Knowledge of electrical system standards and testing approaches within rail or similar sectors
