Job Description

Primary Purpose of Job:

Stantec is an engineering design and remediation leader in global infrastructure, water resources, buildings, mining, power & dams, and oil & gas sectors. Stantec’s Pune, India office is looking for a Civil designer to join our team and work in Water group.

 

The role involves supporting project managers and team leaders by providing civil design support to ensure project outcomes align with budget, schedule, technical, and quality standards, meeting both client and STANTEC expectations. Responsibilities include designing and documenting projects under the guidance of a Project Engineer, using civil engineering techniques and software such as Navisworks, Autodesk Civil3D, Info drainage, and AutoCAD, in accordance with client standards and procedures.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Engineering and designing water and wastewater treatment plants (WTP and WWTP).
  • Creating hydraulic designs for treatment units and related piping/channels.
  • Developing hydraulic models using HADES/Info drainage.
  • Producing concept sketches and general arrangement drawings for both outline and detailed design projects.
  • Conducting outline design and optioneering.
  • Performing detailed design tasks.
  • Preparing technical reports, health and safety documentation, and design deliverables.
  • Coordinating with designers (CAD/BIM) to create detailed drawings.
  • Liaising with contractors and suppliers.
  • Occasionally working off-hours for client coordination.
  • Occasionally traveling offshore for training or on-site work.

 

 

 

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Independently delivering technically sound designs for treatment plants, hydraulics, and utilities.
  • Collaborating with discipline leads, project leads, and other engineers/designers.
  • Ensuring consistent design standards and best practices are applied to projects.
  • Achieving project efficiencies and developing excellence.
  • Adhering to quality programs, design procedures, and systems.
  • Generating reports in HADES/Info drainage.
  • Preparing planning drawings and documentation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Person specification 

  • Professionally qualified engineer with an ME/MTech or BE/BTech (or equivalent) in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with recent experience in water and wastewater treatment and disposal.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience in civil engineering design for WTP and WWTP, with knowledge of various treatment methodologies (e.g., ASP, SBR, MBR, MBBR).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-discipline engineering environment.
  • Preferred overseas work experience.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety aspects of construction of various treatment units.
  • Preferred experience working on international projects.
  • Understanding of P&ID and PFD for WTP and WWTP.
  • Proficiency in CAD.
  • Excellent data presentation skills (MS Office).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and solve problems effectively.
  • Professional accreditation or working towards it (ICE UK/CIWEM).
