Job Description
The Drug/GM Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Drug and General Merchandise departments, ensuring strong sales performance, effective inventory management, and an exceptional customer shopping experience. This role leads the team in executing merchandising standards, maintaining product availability, and driving profitability while upholding company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Department Operations
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Drug/GM departments, including HBC (Health & Beauty Care), OTC, general merchandise, seasonal, and non-food items
- Ensure shelves are stocked, properly faced, and aligned with planograms
- Maintain clean, organized aisles, displays, and backroom areas
- Customer Service Excellence
- Provide outstanding customer service and ensure team members deliver the same
- Assist customers with product inquiries and resolve concerns promptly
- Promote a welcoming and well-maintained shopping environment
- Inventory & Ordering
- Manage ordering to maintain in-stock conditions while controlling excess inventory
- Monitor and reduce shrink through proper handling, security, and inventory practices
- Ensure accurate receiving, pricing, and product rotation where applicable
- Sales & Merchandising
- Drive sales through effective merchandising, displays, and promotional execution
- Set and maintain ad displays, endcaps, and seasonal features
- Ensure pricing accuracy and compliance with signage standards
- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, schedule, and train Drug/GM associates
- Delegate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure completion of daily priorities
- Provide coaching, feedback, and recognition to build a strong team
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain awareness of controlled merchandise and theft prevention practices
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers
- Previous retail or grocery experience required
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Knowledge of general merchandise and inventory control practices
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Results-driven with a focus on sales and execution
