Schedule: FT Nights Position ( 12 hour shifts)

Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist, Transport, provides care in a mobile setting to high-risk patients and their families. The Respiratory Therapist, Transport, serves as a hospital-wide resource for high-quality care for neonatal and pediatric transport patients. They organize, implement, and coordinate patient care as directed by the Physician for stabilization during transfer to a tertiary or Special Care Center.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Performs and directs respiratory care services like oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and inhaled medication. This includes airway clearance, intubation, ventilation, and bedside spirometry. Follows the attending physician's orders and established procedures.
  • Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
  • Reviews physician's orders, examines patient's diagnostic test results and provides appropriate therapy based on the patient's current clinical condition.
  • If appropriate, implements approved protocols as directed by a physician.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating departmental operations, policies, procedures, products, and programs for transport and patient care.
  • Demonstrates data skills to solve complex patient problems in a mobile environment. Develops standards of care and procedures. Evaluates the quality of respiratory care.
  • Documents all treatments and therapies given, any supplies used and accurately files all corresponding charges.
  • Reports outcomes of therapeutic interventions and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Adheres to established policies, including infection control, isolation policies, HIPAA, time and attendance, and social media.
  • In the Fixed Wing/Rotor Wing/Ambulance, must lift/carry 50 pounds. Push/pull up to 40 pounds occasionally. Reach overhead moderately. Move up moderately. Squat/bend/kneel occasionally. Sit/stand moderately. Walk/move about frequently. Tolerate tight quarters and small spaces. Sit in a confined space.
  • Maintains current physical and mental wellbeing. Standard aircraft seat belts fit without changes. Functions in the aircraft cabin without physical restrictions.
  • The Registered Respiratory Therapist, Transport, must live within a one-hour drive or fewer than 60 miles from the base of operation, whichever is greater.

  • Advanced knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
  • Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
  • Able to balance multiple demands and respond to time constraints.
  • Able to pass a pre-placement physical exam, including functional capacity exam assessing durability (raise 100 pounds) and flexibility.
  • General computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand-held scanning, and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

 ACLS (ACLS)

 Basic Life Support (BLS)

 Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

 Pedi Adv Life Support (PALS)

 Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS): Must have an RRT-NPS from the NBRC upon hire or transfer or within 1 year.

 Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP): Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

 Reg Respiratory Therapist (RRT): Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC.
