
Surgical Technologist Clinical Education Coordinator
Job Description
The clinical education coordinator works with the Surgical Services nurse educators, nurse manager, nurse administrator, and academic educational program faculty to lead, educate and assess student and new employee skills and clinical judgment. Attends the surgeon and surgical team peri-operatively to provide for optimum peri-operative experience. The team leader provides leadership through activities that include development of staff, teaching, precepting, and quality improvements. Through collaboration with Surgical Services leadership, the ST Clinical Education Coordinator assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating the Mayo Clinic Florida Surgical Services education programs. Other responsibilities include: student assessment and performance evaluation and when necessary, works with Surgical Services staff members, academic educational program faculty and department leadership to develop strategies to remediate student performance deficiencies.
• Graduate of an accredited and/or hospital approved Surgical Technology program.
• CST certification is required and must be maintained through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• A minimum of five years surgical tech experience (within the last three years) in an applicable care setting is required.
• Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal), strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively coach and mentor others is essential.
• Working knowledge with EHR systems, Epic and Censitrac preferred. Proficiency of computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet preparation, data collection/management/analysis, creation of graphs/charts and presentation slides.
• Able to work as a team member including taking direction from others and self-initiating and managing tasks as appropriate.
• Maintains BLS (Basic Life Support) for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
