Job Description
Essential Job Duties:
- Accession and process the gynecological and non-gynecological specimens as they arrive in the laboratory
- Perform routine stain maintenance on manual and automated stain devices
- Process routine gyn and non-gyn cytology specimens and perform special stain techniques using both manual and automated methods
- If eligible per accrediting bodies, grosses fine needle core biopsies as directed
- Adheres to all PBM Safety policies and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies
- Handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely
- Learn and apply computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices
- Ensure work area has proper coverage at all times during the work shift, ie coverage for meal and/or rest periods
- Ensure timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists
- Immediately notifies supervisory personnel of malfunctioning instrumentation
- Protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times
- Utilize automated lab equipment properly according to lab procedures and manufacturers' instructions
- Maintain competency through web-based Standard Operating Procedure updates as well as educational modules
- Cross train in other areas as assigned or requested
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested
