What is the opportunity?
This role will play a key role in shaping RBC’s evolving AI risk governance approach. The successful candidate will support the execution of RBC’s AI risk strategy and governance initiatives while maintaining RBC’s desired risk profile. The role supports the continued evolution and implementation of RBC’s AI risk governance framework (including related policies and standards), oversight on internal policy and external regulatory developments related to AI, and the reporting of AI portfolio and thematic insights on risk associated with AI adoption. . It provide exposure to emerging AI risk governance, risk strategy, regulatory development, and also cross-functional leadership discussions.
What will you do?
- AI governance framework development: support the evolution, development and implementation of RBC’s AI risk governance approach, including related policies, standards and governance processes.
- AI Risk strategy execution: Drive awareness of, including supporting the embedding of, new ownership, roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities across business lines/functions in relation to AI; support the execution of AI risk strategy (aligning governance and risk frameworks) and lead relevant components as assigned.
- Risk oversight: Partner with 1LOD and 2LOD stakeholders to support consistent identification, assessment, and management of AI-related risks and controls
- Emerging risk and regulatory monitoring: Monitor emerging Ai regulatory, industry, and risk developments and translate insights into practical governance considerations and enterprise guidance
- Reporting and portfolio monitoring: Support the development of AI portfolio reporting and monitoring capabilities, including AI inventory monitoring and portfolio insights.
- ESG Risk governance: Support ESG risk governance activities as required and where skills and expertise can be leveraged
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, operations, and/or technology environments with the ability to align and think holistically about governance and risk while considering broader business needs and AI strategies
- AI/ML Knowledge: Awareness of AI/ML technologies and associated risks
- Risk Management Experience: strong understanding of governance and risk management concepts, preferably experience working in Operational Risk, Model Risk Management and/or Technology Risk in regulated environments
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and navigate a matrixed environment
- Leadership / Soft Skills: Have a collaborative mind-set, ability to lead without authority, good verbal and written communications, analytical and critical thinking skills
Nice-to-have
- Professional designation (e.g., CPA, Certified Internal Auditor)
- Ability to manage complex projects, meet high-quality standards, and deliver under tight deadlines.
- Governance and Policy Design: Ability to design and implement frameworks that balance innovation with control. Proven experience with enterprise-wide projects with sound knowledge of RBC’s business lines and activities.
- Regulatory Fluency: Familiarity with evolving global AI regulatory landscapes
