Job Description

Leading the design, development, and production of the Structural Design Team. Oversee the design and documentation of all Structural Design Services throughout the project lifecycle. 

Lead quality assurance and quality control on the technical delivery of projects and oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with regional and national regulations.

  • Plan and coordinate engineering and BIM resources across projects

  • Contribute to project and design management within the team’s scope

  • Lead and manage the quality checking of designs, drawings, and deliverables

  • Be responsible for the technical delivery on projects.

  • Provide input to man‑hour estimates, cost tracking, and proposal development

  • Maintain a strong client‑centric mindset when working with our Australian counterparts

  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders across Australia offices and the wider global business (as required)

  • Support expectation management and issue resolution as required

  • Monitor project utilisation against team targets

  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Contribute to the development of the office against defined strategic goals

  • Contribute to the growth and performance appraisal of people within the region 

  • Assist and contribute to the development of 3-year strategic plans for the region, to include market and people development 

  • Assist in analysing the financial and non-financial performance of the region 

  • High-level, innovative, and strategic contribution to projects 

  • Represent and promote the business with the lead countries 

  • Be active in representing the company through target industry organisations 

  • Participate in the performance appraisal of direct reports 

  • Approve offers and execute contracts to the limit delegated by the Office Manager or his delegate 

  • Approve expenditure and creditor payments to the limit delegated by the Office Manager or his delegate 

  • Approve recruitment/promotion/dismissals at all levels below your direct reports. 

  • Serve on committees and Working Groups as invited. 

  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies for those areas of the business for which you are responsible 

  • Assist in the delivery of staff and market surveys 

  • Participate in office and/or region management/executive meetings and annual office and/or region strategic retreats as requested. 

  • Apply legislation, standards, guidelines and project specifications.

  • Assist in developing annual remuneration review recommendations as required

  • Other duties as directed to help the company provide outstanding service to its customers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, or Equivalent

  • May also have Master’s or PhD

  • Professional Chartership/registration within jurisdiction

  • Typically, 15+ years’ relevant experience

  • Extensive experience in applying local and international standards, particularly the Australian Code

  • Managed and led large teams to deliver sustainable business outcomes. 

  • Recognised expert in technical discipline with broad experience in providing unique technical expertise across a wide range of high-profile projects.

  • Proven ability to prepare and review complex technical information in a variety of formats. Explores the use of new technologies in communication. Approaches information production, storage, and retrieval with an information security mindset

  • Demonstrates excellence and innovation in providing high-quality technical solutions. Drives Lessons Learned processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Highly competent in managing the scope and delivery of complex, multiple projects and guiding the work of others. Teaches others about the importance of variations. Owns the scope boundary for each project

  • Mentors consultants in commercial awareness and client value delivery. Can participate in commercial and contractual negotiations. Ability to manage possible conflicts

  • Leads complex function analysis for major projects and conducts quantitative assessment of multiple alternatives using value engineering matrices. Can bring stakeholders on the journey to develop the best for project outcomes.

  • Shares knowledge of the application of modelling software and/or analytical techniques across projects. Assists in driving and implementing software and techniques.

  • Skilled and knowledgeable in the use of Digital Technologies, including MS365 and AI tools, to deliver projects in accordance with WSP Policy. Drives innovative use of new technologies to improve project efficiencies

  • Is aware of key relevant Digital Tools and Software and their applicability aid projects. Highly developed skills in analysis and interpretation of output as applied to complex projects.

  • Advanced knowledge in Digital Engineering/BIM based inter-disciplinary coordination, constructability and/or project controls.

  • Competent in identifying, communicating and managing risks on substantial projects. Takes a proactive approach to engage key WSP stakeholders.

  • Highly skilled in applying safety in design practices and processes in projects. Keeps abreast of emerging trends and educates others.

  • Strong experience in managing and maintaining client relationships and winning job from job. Ability to communicate complex technical issues easily and proactively respond to feedback. Contributes to proposals and seeks new business opportunities.

  • Supports all aspects of business development as requested/directed

  • Contributes to Future Ready & Sustainable case studies and promotes eligible projects.

  • Role models compliance with legislation, standards, guidelines and project specifications. Shares processes in varying standards with others.
