Job Description
Overview
The Dispatcher coordinates daily transportation and logistics operations, including routing, scheduling, and communication with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams. This role supports efficient delivery execution, resolves operational issues, and may focus on transportation or logistics based on business needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily dispatch operations, including routing, scheduling, and load planning
- Assist with backhauls, routing procedures, and overall logistics coordination
- Communicate with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams regarding delivery schedules and shipment status
- Answer and manage incoming calls related to delivery issues, customer inquiries, and logistics coordination
- Confirm and schedule pickup and delivery appointments and ensure freight readiness
- Create, update, and maintain dispatch records, shipment logs, and transportation management system entries
- Process orders, bills of lading, and required documentation accurately and timely
- Maintain organized records of all logistics and dispatch documentation
- Monitor daily operations and resolve logistics and delivery issues as they arise
- Coordinate load planning and support common carrier shipments and pickups
- Maintain accurate reporting, including daily shipment logs and operational reports
- Support communication across Transportation, Sales, Customer Service, and Logistics teams
- Track and communicate delays, issues, or changes to ensure service levels are maintained
- Cross-train in dispatch, routing, and logistics functions to support team operations
- Exercise independent decision-making using discretion and judgment in resolving operational issues
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent work-related experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-up
- Ability to multi-task and manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment
- Customer service mindset with experience handling calls and resolving issues
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in transportation, logistics, dispatching, or distribution environments preferred
- Experience with routing or transportation management systems (e.g., RoadNet or similar) preferred
- Knowledge of freight coordination, carrier communication, or 3PL environments preferred
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
