POSITION SUMMARY
Director of Ministry & Mission
 
Position Overview: 
The Director of Ministry & Mission is responsible for advancing and integrating the Catholic identity, values, and mission of the Catholic Care Center across all levels of the organization. This role provides leadership in mission formation, pastoral care, and ethical guidance while ensuring alignment with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. The Director collaborates closely with the Priest assigned to the Catholic Care Center to support sacramental life, spiritual services, and the overall pastoral needs of residents, families, and staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission Integration
  • Embed Catholic values, Catholic social teaching, and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs) into organizational policies, programs, and daily operations.
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure mission alignment in strategic planning, decision‑making, and organizational culture.
  • Develop and deliver mission‑focused education for employees, volunteers, and leaders.
Pastoral Care & Spiritual Services
  • Oversee the delivery of pastoral care services for residents, patients, families, and staff.
  • Provide spiritual support, prayer, and presence as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Priest assigned to the Catholic Care Center to:
    • Coordinate sacramental ministry, including Mass, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, and pastoral visits.
    •  Ensure appropriate liturgical practices and observances throughout the liturgical year.
    • Support the priest in meeting the spiritual needs of residents and staff.
  • Ensure respectful and inclusive spiritual care for individuals of all faith traditions.
Ethics & Catholic Identity
  • Serve as a resource on Catholic moral theology and ethical issues related to healthcare and senior services.
  • Participate in ethics consultations and provide guidance on complex care decisions, particularly in end‑of‑life care.
  • Monitor organizational practices for consistency with Catholic identity and the ERDs.
Community & Church Relations
  • Maintain strong working relationships with diocesan offices, parish communities, religious orders, and Catholic organizations.
  • Represent the Catholic Care Center at mission‑related events, committees, and community initiatives.
  • Promote volunteer engagement and mission‑driven outreach activities.
Leadership & Organizational Culture
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning and culture development.
  • Support employee well‑being through mission‑centered programs, reflection opportunities, and spiritual resources.
  • Model behaviors consistent with the mission, values, and Catholic identity of the organization.
Other duties as assigned.

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic healthcare and senior services.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteers
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Divinity, Spiritual Care, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in pastoral care, mission leadership, or ministry within a Catholic organization.
  • Experience in healthcare, long-term care, or senior services strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Comprehensive understanding of Catholic theology, sacramental life, and Catholic social teaching.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERDs).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Compassionate presence and ability to support individuals experiencing illness, aging, grief, or transition.
