This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Business Relationship Manager is responsible for driving growth in the Credit Union’s business banking portfolio by proactively building, expanding, and nurturing relationships with business members in targeted markets. This role serves as a strategic partner to business owners and key decision makers, providing guidance, solutions, and resources that support their financial success while strengthening long‑term loyalty to the Credit Union.
Highly active in the marketplace, the Business Relationship Manager develops strong referral networks, maintains a visible presence in the business community, and represents the Credit Union at events, presentations, and outreach activities that promote the organization’s brand, products, and services. This includes prospecting for new business opportunities, conducting outbound outreach, meeting with business members at their place of business, and uncovering needs across deposits, treasury services, lending, and payment solutions.
In addition to managing an active pipeline and portfolio, the Business Relationship Manager collaborates closely with internal partners to ensure a seamless and exceptional member experience. This includes coordinating with branch teams, treasury specialists, lenders, and operations to deliver efficient onboarding, accurate product fulfillment, and responsive service tailored to each business’s unique needs.
This role requires strong business acumen, consultative selling skills, and the ability to build trust quickly with diverse business owners. By combining proactive market engagement with deep relationship development, the Business Relationship Manager plays a critical role in expanding the Credit Union’s presence, driving portfolio growth, and supporting the financial well‑being of the business community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Meet or exceed assigned sales, acquisition, and business growth goals by executing effective relationship‑building, market engagement, and strategic business development activities.
- Achieve business growth objectives by developing strong relationships with new and existing business members and delivering tailored financial solutions.
- Proactively generate new business opportunities through networking, referrals, outbound outreach, community involvement, and targeted market engagement.
- Develop and cultivate referral partnerships with centers of influence, including accountants, attorneys, real estate professionals, and business associations, to drive high‑quality lead generation.
- Conduct onsite business visits to understand member needs, build trust, and strengthen the Credit Union’s presence in assigned markets.
- Represent the Credit Union at community events, presentations, and business development activities to increase brand visibility and promote business products and services.
- Perform consultative needs assessments and serve as a trusted advisor to business members by recommending solutions across deposits, treasury services, lending, and payment‑related products.
- Open, service, and support business deposit accounts and related products with a strong commitment to accuracy, compliance, and exceptional member service.
- Partner cross‑functionally with branch teams, lenders, treasury specialists, and operations to ensure seamless onboarding, efficient product implementation, and a consistently positive member experience.
- Identify cross‑sell, up‑sell, and referral opportunities to Retail, Consumer Lending, Mortgage/Real Estate, and Treasury/Cash Management teams.
- Manage an active sales pipeline and portfolio, documenting outreach, tracking opportunity progression, and maintaining regular relationship follow‑ups.
- Perform ongoing portfolio management, including annual reviews, relationship deepening strategies, and proactive engagement to support retention and growth.
- Maintain comprehensive and up‑to‑date knowledge of Credit Union products, services, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements affecting business accounts.
- Ensure all business development activities comply with Credit Union policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Travel within assigned markets and branch locations to support member engagement, business development, and internal collaboration.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
- Ongoing professional development in sales, leadership, or financial services is encouraged.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Strong understanding of credit union or banking business products and financial services.
- Knowledge of business deposit account structures, cash management services, and basic business lending concepts.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements related to business banking and deposit accounts.
- Understanding of sales methodologies, relationship management, and consultative selling practices.
EXPERIENCED REQUIRED:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in business banking, retail banking, financial services sales, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success working with small to mid-sized businesses and developing long-term business relationships.
- Prior experience in outside sales, retail banking, mortgage services, or business development highly preferred.
HARD/TECHNICAL SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional, executive-level presence.
- Ability to analyze business member needs and recommend appropriate financial solutions.
- High level of self-motivation with the ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, track sales activities, and meet performance goals.
- Comfort with CRM systems, sales tracking tools, and digital communication platforms.
