Job Duties
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of a provider, works as part of the medical team performing the clinical and clerical duties necessary to meet the goal of providing primary healthcare. Duties include preparing patients for their visit, gathering information, registering patients, preparing medical charts, performing point-of-care testing and routine procedures, assisting providers with more complex procedures, making appointments when necessary, and answering the phone utilizing excellent customer service skills.

Facilitates communication between the patient and the clinic. Contacts and confirms patient appointments prior to the scheduled appointment. Schedules appointments as needed.

Ensures smooth patient flow throughout clinic by reviewing the schedule every day, pulling and preparing medical charts, and greeting patients upon arrival.

Prepares patients for their visit by distributing the appropriate health questionnaire, obtaining medical and/or social history, and checking all vital signs and measurements as needed.

Records charges in the electronic health record as needed.

Performs point-of-care testing as required per patient visit (rapid strep, lead, hct, pregnancy test, blood sugar, HA1C, etc.)

Performs routine procedures as required per patient visit (EKG’s, ear lavage, peak flow, vision screening, audiogram, tympanogram, etc.)

Assists providers with routine and complex procedures (pap smears, IUD placements, colposcopy, NST’s, minor surgeries, etc.)

High school diploma or equivalent required, OR must be actively pursuing a high school diploma/GED.

Medical Assistant diploma required; current AAMA certification preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within first 30 days of employment.

Certified Medication Aide required within first three months of employment.

Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.

Prior healthcare experience preferred.

Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office products required; experience with an Electronic Health Record preferred.

Proficiency in English & Spanish required.

Demonstrated ability to relate with warmth and empathy to OneWorld patients and staff.

Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.

Flexibility with changing work schedules required.
