An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Engineering Technician IV to join our growing Public Works Operation team in Vernon Hills, IL.

What you can expect:

The Engineer Technician IV will report to the Division Director and requires participation in a variety of basic technician engineering work involving both office and field support. They will be a Responsible Operator in Charge of various water distribution systems, construction oversite of various projects, and provide support to other staff. This role is an exempt, salary position. We offer a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Public Works Division and work with our Responsible Operator in Charge for various water distribution systems in the region.

  • Manage and train existing staff in operation requirements.

  • Develop knowledge of all current service lines.

  • Maintain and improve current water operator licensure.

  • Develop knowledge of all current service lines.

  • Review sanitary sewer and water main systems.

  • Develop recommendations for capital improvement and/or operation and maintenance plans with project managers.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with GHA’s existing clients.

What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc.

EDUCATION:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Formal training in project management preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:

  • Related project experience including eight (8) years as a project manager.

  • Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.

  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License and registered insured personal vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the requirements and processes of low to medium complexity projects sufficient for developing work plans and reviewing work products.

  • Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that will work in a collaborative environment to set and manage project and task scope/schedules/effort expectations in compliance to the Division’s Quality Management Plan and clearly communicates them to other team members.

  • Ability to manage personal schedule to align with multiple project schedules while communicating progress status to team members and supervisor.

  • Lead project-related communication and meetings with clients and other stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate the ability to technically mentor and train junior-level employees.

  • Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors and requires moderate physical demands, including sitting, standing, or walking on uneven surfaces and/or exposure to inclement or extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.

  • Assist in the development of portions of project proposals.

  • Proficiency with software products:

    • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

    • PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)
