Job Summary
At Vane Brothers Tankerman could perform any combination of the following duties aboard liquid container barge. Our tankerman stands watch opposite and takes direction from the Barge Captain. The Tankerman also acts as a Person in Charge during cargo transfer operations. The Tankerman could have either an OS or AB endorsement. The AB endorsement denotes more experience and is required for working on the ATBs for voyages that take the vessels outside the coastal lines of demarcation.
Work schedule: Equal time – 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off or 3 weeks on,3 weeks off

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Loads and unloads barge to ensure that cargo is loaded according to ballast specifications.
Prepares hoses for intake/discharge of material.
Determines and monitors the amount of oil to be taken on the vessel from dockside intake or during lightering process.
Monitors tank indicators.
Utilizes gauge gun to check oil level volume in tank.
Walks length of barge, 110 ft. to 365 ft. to carry out responsibilities.
Spots barge in preparation of movement, docking and tying up.
Performs general maintenance and repair on barge to include motors, engines, pumps, generators, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
Ventilates storage tanks.

MMC-required.
TWIC-required
Medical Certificate-required
PIC-required
Bunkering experience preferred.
Classified as semi-skilled work. Person is considered trained for the occupation with between 3 months and 6 months of experience; includes vocational education, apprenticeship, in-plant, on-the-job, and/or essential experience gained on other jobs.
