Reports To: Chief of Staff
Role
You'll be the sole owner of an internal tool that our team relies on every day to run operations across the business. It's the operational backbone of how we run, and it needs an owner. You'll report to the Chief of Staff, who is the product owner. She'll set priorities and bring you well-defined problems from across the operation. You own all technical decisions and execution. The two of you will work as a tight team: she knows the business and the operation, and you bring the technical depth.
We're looking for someone who pushes back, brings ideas, and is comfortable suggesting more efficient processes or approaches that we haven't thought of yet; we're not looking for someone to silently work through a ticket queue. The codebase was originally built with AI-assisted tooling and continues to grow that way. Comfort with AI development tools isn't optional. We expect you to use them well, refine what they produce, and have a clear point of view on how they fit into a production workflow.
What You'll Do:
- Own the internal tool end to end: architecture, features, bug fixes, deployments, and long-term maintainability
- Take problems from the Chief of Staff and translate them into working software, with technical decisions owned by you and product direction set by her
- Write clean, well-documented code that another developer could pick up if needed
- Manage version control, testing, and deployment workflows so updates ship smoothly and the system stays stable
- Use AI development tools as part of your normal workflow, with the judgment to know when AI-generated code is good enough and when it needs to be rewritten
- Bring forward your expertise, best practices and ideas based on what you see in the codebase and across the operation
- Help with basic IT tasks across the team when needed, including new employee device setup, account provisioning, and troubleshooting day-to-day hardware or software issues
- Be available for on-call coverage of critical issues. We run a 24/7 operation, and the right candidate is comfortable responding to urgent issues outside of standard hours when they come up
What We're Looking For:
- At least 3 years of professional development experience, with at least one role where you owned a production application or service end to end
- Strong full-stack capability - you move between frontend and backend comfortably. Working knowledge of React, Node.js, and SQL-based databases is required
- An AI-assisted workflow - you actively use tools like Claude, Cursor, or Copilot as part of how you ship code, and you can read, debug, and refactor AI-generated code with good judgment.
- Comfort being the sole developer - you're not waiting on a tech lead to tell you what to build next
- Comfort being managed by a non-technical product owner - you can take well-defined problems and run with them, and you can push back when identifying a better opportunity for improvement
- Strong written and verbal communication - you can explain technical trade-offs to a non-technical audience and document your work for stakeholders
- Comfort with basic IT tasks - you can set up a laptop and troubleshoot common hardware and software issues
- Good judgment on shipping -you know the difference between code that's good enough to ship and code that needs more work, and you don't over-engineer problems that don't need it
What Success Looks Like
Your first 30 days:
- You have a working understanding of the codebase, including the parts that are messy, the parts that are fragile, and the parts that just need attention
- You've shipped meaningful improvements from the existing backlog and earned trust by reliably delivering what you commit to
- You have a clear point of view on what the codebase needs over the next 6 -12 months, and you've shared it with the Chief of Staff
- The tool is materially more stable and more maintainable than when you started
- New features are shipping on a predictable cadence
How You'll Be Operating:
- Bug response is under 24 hours for non-critical issues and under 2 hours for anything blocking live operations
Benefits

- Paid Time Off
