Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Position

Under the general direction of the Safety Manager, the Safety Technician is responsible for the implementation and

maintenance of site safety programs. This position supports the prevention of injury and illness through the design,

execution, monitoring, and enforcement of safety, health, food safety, and security programs while promoting a

strong safety culture across the facility.

 

Qualifications

  • · GED or High School Diploma required
  • · Safety experience preferred
  • · Industrial/manufacturing experience preferred
  • · Food industry experience preferred
  • · Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • · Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities

Safety Programs

  • · Implement, maintain, and update written safety and health programs, including but not limited to:
    • Hazard Communication
    • Exposure Control (Bloodborne Pathogens, TB)
    • PPE and Hazard Assessments
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Chemical Hygiene Plan
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Emergency Action Plan
  • · Conduct periodic safety and health inspections of all facilities
  • · Ensure completion of required safety training, including quarterly training
  • · Maintain OSHA 300 logs
  • · Investigate accidents, injuries, illnesses, and near-miss incidents
  • · Maintain safety and health records and documentation
  • · Coordinate hygiene programs (noise surveys, air monitoring, ventilation surveys)
  • · Plan and facilitate emergency response drills

Training & Communication

  • · Oversee new-employee health and safety orientation
  • · Develop safety training materials and presentations
  • · Train production employees on safety-related topics
  • · Communicate daily safety concerns to employees and management
  • · Build and present safety data for senior management

Compliance & Audits

  • · Review policies for compliance with customer and government regulations
  • · Conduct safety audits to drive continuous improvement
  • · Ensure compliance with food quality, food safety, and GMP requirements

Production Support

  • · Maintain QCDSM matrix
  • · Analyze safety data and recommend improvements

Other Duties

  • · Perform additional duties as assigned by the Safety Manager

Core Competencies

Technical Skills

  • · OSHA knowledge or OSHA certification (preferred)
  • · Knowledge of Food Quality Systems (SQF preferred)
  • · Safety data analysis and reporting
  • · Incident investigation and root cause analysis

Soft Skills

  • · Strong communication and presentation skills
  • · Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • · Positive attitude with high visibility on the production floor
  • · Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
