Job Description

The University of Virginia's College at Wise Department of Music invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor of Voice/Musical Theater. This position will teach voice and musical theater courses and may include additional duties based on the candidate’s interests and departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in voice and musical theater
  • Provide engaging, student-centered instruction
  • Collaborate with music faculty, theater faculty, collaborative pianists, and students
  • Support student artistic and academic success
  • Participate in departmental activities as appropriate
  • Coordinate semesterly musical theater reviews and assist in the full production of a musical with the Theater Division every other year.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Musical Theater, Voice, or a closely related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, pianists, and students

Preferred

  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Experience in vocal performance and/or musical theater production
  • Collaborative and flexible teaching approach

About the Position

This is a part-time adjunct faculty appointment located in Wise. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Salary

Pay varies depending on instructor’s availability as well as on the number of courses and students taught. An instructor can expect to earn between $5,000 and $10,000 per semester.
