Purpose
This role ensures the store’s meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Cutter delivers the highest level of customer service and satisfaction by following the company’s meat merchandising plan and trimming /preparing standard cuts of meat as outlined in the Meat Cutter Resource Manual. The Meat Cutter demonstrates excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and commitment to the success of the team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Works under the direction of the Meat Manager
Cuts, packages, wraps, weighs, prices, and labels meat products using knives and power equipment in accordance with company and USDA standards
Prepares, merchandises, and maintains attractive meat displays to maximize sales
Ensures proper product rotation, dating, and storage in display cases and coolers
Receives, inspects, and stores meat deliveries to maintain cold chain and product quality
Maintains daily sanitation, food safety, and quality standards per company policy
Assists with ordering, inventory processes, markdowns, and scale operations as needed
Performs other related duties to support overall store operations and protect company assets
This is a non-management position. This position does not have the authority to make decisions concerning hiring, terminations, demotions, promotions, or otherwise take tangible employment action
Position Qualifications
Company work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performance
Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Must be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is desired.
Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store, as needed with little or no advanced notice
Excellent customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skills
Must adhere to a uniform dress code
Education and Experience
Must be 18 years of age
High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
1 year of experience safely using manual pallet jacks, hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to knives, wrappers, scales, slicers, cubing machine, and power saw (where certified to cut meat) (Preferred)
Successful completion of Leevers Meat Cutter Training Program within three months
Food Safety Certification may be required.
Physical Activities
Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift, and carry items weighing 20–50 pounds on a regular basis. Items weighing more than 50 pounds require a coordinated team lift.
Stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear
Reach, bend, twist, balance, bend forward, stoop or walk for most of the time on duty.
Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance
Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp and use sawing motions for extended periods of time
This position is performed primarily in a temperature-controlled environment where the temperature ranges from 38-45 degrees Fahrenheit
