Full-Time - 40 hours
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and skill‑building to Persons in Recovery (PIRs). The role focuses on fostering hope, promoting wellness, strengthening natural supports, and helping individuals regain control over their recovery process. This position is part of the Recovery Support Team and models RHD values in all interactions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Services
Serve as an active member of the Recovery Support and CPS Teams.
Use personal lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.
Help individuals develop personalized Recovery Service Plans.
Facilitate identification of strengths, supports, and community resources.
Conduct regular meetings with clients, documenting progress per program standards.
Provide education on recovery tools (e.g., WRAP), self‑help, mutual support, and orientation for new participants.
Utilize Motivational Interviewing to support behavior change and combat negative self‑talk.
Support individuals in community integration activities (social, educational, advocacy, etc.).
Assist individuals in setting and achieving recovery goals, improving social and interpersonal functioning.
Refer individuals to supportive services and communicate service successes or gaps to supervisors.
Professional & Administrative
Maintain CPS certification and attend required trainings.
Safeguard confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, fire safety, and organizational policies.
Participate in staff meetings and promote a positive image of RHD.
Document all services accurately and completely.
Work primarily in the community (approx. 80% of time).
Maintain professionalism and exercise sound judgment.
REQUIREMENTS
Pennsylvania Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification.
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
Ability to pass Act 33 and State Police background checks.
Self‑identified current/former recipient of mental health or co‑occurring services.
At least 12 months of paid or volunteer experience within the past 3 years
(one year of recent education may substitute).
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting peer relationships.
Detail‑oriented with solid written/verbal communication.
Ability to work with diverse populations and network within the community.
Effective time management and follow‑through skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of recovery principles and tools, including WRAP.
Understanding of Certified Peer Specialist service expectations.
Ability to use office equipment (computer, phone, copier, etc.).
Meets physical requirements: frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, lifting up to 20 lbs., and other moderate‑level physical tasks.
Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, based on program needs.
