Job Description

Title: Assistant Principal

MDE Code 601002 

Assists the principal with the administrative duties in a school.
 

Qualifications: 

1. Master's degree or beyond.
2. Certification in one of the following areas: 486, 487, 488, 490, 491 (Proper MDE certification in secondary or elementary pending the position need.)
3. A minimum of three successful years teaching experience. 


Reports To:  Principal 
Supervises:   Staff members designated by the principal.
Job Goal:  To assist the principal in providing school wide leadership and to learn the role of the principal. 


Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
2. Serves as the principal in the absence of the regular principal.
3. Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities. 
4. Supervises the preparation of student schedules.
5. Works with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
6. Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories; and checks on receipts for such material. 
7. Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
8. Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and othersupport services.
9. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of the student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
10. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and deals with special cases as necessary.
11. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educationaland related activities and objectives.
12. Administers the student insurance program.
13. Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
14. Supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
15. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.


Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and the Mississippi Department of  Education.
