Adult Education Director of Professional Development

What You’ll Do
The Statewide Director leads the development and implementation of a statewide professional development plan aligned with WIOA RFPs and supports execution of Florida’s WIOA Unified State Plan in partnership with the Department of Education. The role provides strategic direction, oversight, and accountability for adult education professional development across state agencies, school districts, colleges, and other providers.
Additionally, the Director works with the Adult Education Bureau Chief to improve data quality and program performance, ensures alignment between local and statewide goals, and builds strong local partnerships to enhance program delivery. The position also develops targeted professional development opportunities to drive outcomes and supervises a coordinator overseeing provider performance and training initiatives.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for:
Implementing the professional development and performance aspects of the Adult Education State Unified Plan and WIOA RFP.
Ensuring local providers are implementing Adult Education best practices in teaching and learning in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Providing technical assistance to local providers on implementing and carrying out best practices in teaching and learning across all Adult Education programs, while overseeing professional development programs, services, and activities in partnership with providers.
Implementing all aspects associated with teaching and learning for the Adult Education State Plan and ensuring local providers are applying English Literacy and Civics Education practices in alignment with state and federal guidelines.
Providing technical assistance to local providers on implementing and carrying out English Literacy and Civics Education professional development, teaching and learning, programs, services, and activities.
Serving as the primary contact for the Adult Education Services Bureau on all matters related to professional development, teaching, and learning, while supervising a coordinator supporting the administration and implementation of adult education professional development programs and services under federal and state Adult Education Acts and related initiatives.
Collaborating with the Bureau Chief and adult education staff on special projects requiring advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills, including utilizing mail merge functionality to streamline document processing.
Orchestrating the Integrated Education and Training (IET) program review, approval, and implementation process.
Consulting with Adult Education program providers regarding necessary revisions to IET Programs of Study.
Overseeing alignment of Adult Education standards with the Florida Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) standards.
Training and mentoring colleagues to strengthen Adult Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) content knowledge as needed.
Developing statewide policies impacting the implementation of Adult Education programs.
Supervising the implementation of critical leadership initiatives as directed by FDOE leadership.
Performing related duties as assigned.
Communicating and consulting with colleagues across content areas to ensure consistent and reliable exchange of knowledge and expertise.
Maintaining regular attendance as an essential function of the position.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Master's in education leadership or policy, program evaluation, public policy or administration, or related field.
Minimum of five years' experience in a related field with experience conducting or managing research and/or evaluation projects.
