
Automation Sustainment Engineer

We are currently seeking a Maintenance & Automation Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about maintain, improving, and optimising automated systems while fostering collaboration with cross-functional teams.
We are looking for someone to work remotely in the Benelux region; regular travel will be required across our Benelux and UK sites.
As an Maintenance & Automation Engineer, you will be the key point of accountability for ensuring our automation systems continue to run smoothly and efficiently after implementation. Your role will focus on auditing and supporting the site Maintenance Programme, identifying and addressing any issues proactively to minimize downtime.
Working closely with local site teams, audit the sites maintenance activities, you will troubleshoot system faults, uphold high safety standards, and drive continuous improvement. Your expertise will be critical in maintaining system integrity, resolving technical issues, and ensuring long-term operational reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain, update, and develop work instructions for system maintenance and repairs
- Perform periodic audits and assessments to ensure compliance with operational, maintenance, and IT infrastructure standards
- Ensure automation systems meet world class safety, food safety, and regulatory standards, prioritising employee health and well-being
- Monitor and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for system uptime and productivity
- Conduct regular meetings with local site teams to assess system performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective maintenance
- Evaluate preventative and predictive maintenance programs to optimize equipment servicing and spare parts inventory management
- Provide expert advice and solutions to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency across automation systems
- Support teams with electromechanical troubleshooting and vendor coordination
- Assist in the training and development of operational staff and maintenance teams to maximize system efficiency
- Collaborate with regional and site level operations to ensure the sustainability of automation solutions
- Provide on-site support as needed for preventive and corrective maintenance
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
- Proven experience in maintaining and troubleshooting automated or electromechanical systems
- Experience in auditing/assessing
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high-quality standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), and PLC controls
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, team-oriented environments
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace

- Ability to travel 50% of the time or based on business needs
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential
- Proficiency in both written and spoken Dutch is desirable
