Job Description
The Tech Patient Care UN provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing essential tasks such as obtaining vital signs, collecting specimens, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. Key responsibilities include monitoring and documenting patient conditions, assisting with the use of medical equipment, maintaining infection control standards, and responding promptly to patient needs. The role also encompasses preparing instruments, performing post-mortem care, initiating CPR when necessary, and supporting new staff through orientation and training. The technician consistently adheres to hospital policies and safety protocols, maintains required competencies, and actively participates in team meetings.
Work Experience
Education and experience requirements for the Tech Patient Care UN position include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification, and completion of an approved training program such as a hospital-based program, community college, Emergency Medical Technician, or Medical Corpsmen. Equivalent on-the-job training may be accepted in place of formal training. A minimum of one year of recent direct patient care experience is preferred, along with current CPR certification. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in applying universal safety precautions, responding effectively in emergency situations, and possessing comprehensive knowledge of patient care principles across the lifespan. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members. Ensuring patient safety is a paramount responsibility, which includes identifying and mitigating risks, reporting adverse events promptly, consistently adhering to policies and procedures, and maintaining clear and accurate communication within the care team.
