Description: Tesla is looking for a skilled construction Lead Mechanical Buyer to join our team based in Austin, TX. This individual will support various large-scale Infrastructure & Tool Install Construction projects across North America with a specific focus on Mechanical, Process Piping & Plumbing disciplines. The Lead Mechanical Buyer will be accountable for successful execution of the RFx process, contractor selection, contract execution, and contract management. This individual will need to be able to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external contract partners. Tesla is a fast-moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success. The successful candidate will be a self-starter; eager to learn about Tesla’s Procurement organization.
Responsibilities: Cultivate strong stakeholder support and cooperation on contracting activities Maintain a high level of industry expertise and supplier/market conditions Maintain day-to-day supplier relationships; act as the first point of contact for contractual escalations Identify and pre-qualify new suppliers by assessing their commercial and technical capabilities Efficient execution of RFx process to ensure all project scopes are contracted according to the required project schedule Review, analyze and clarify bid packages received from service providers Negotiate contract awards and make recommendations to stakeholders
Requirements: Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience At least 6 years of experience in the heavy construction industry The ideal candidate will have prior experience supporting a high-volume purchasing operation Strong construction knowledge and ability to read construction drawings; Ability to estimate within discipline of focus is strongly desired Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills Excellent analytical and judgment skills. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Bluebeam and/or Acrobat Understanding of basic contract law and construction contract standards
