As Payroll Manager, you own the end-to-end payroll function for a growing workforce. You're the person everyone relies on to get it right — because getting it right matters. You'll bring order to complexity, keep us compliant across multiple states, and partner closely with all departments to make sure our people experience is seamless from offer letter to pay check.Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Own and process multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees
Manage payroll team (payroll, payroll taxes and payroll accounting)
Ensure accurate and timely processing of all payroll transactions — earnings, deductions, garnishments, commissions, and equity compensation
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations; manage tax filings, year-end W-2s, and ACA reporting
Partner with HR to ensure data integrity across HRIS and payroll systems; audit and reconcile records regularly
Partner with all other departments to ensure payroll objectives are met and that payroll needs are addressed.
Manage team as they address payroll related questions and issues
Manage relationships with payroll vendors and stay ahead of system updates or changes
Build and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls
Review and help reconcile payroll accounting, journal entries, accruals, and audits
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate payroll processes as the company scales
Stay current on legislative changes affecting payroll and proactively surface any compliance risks
Required Skills, Education, Experience:
5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a management or lead role
Deep knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance and tax regulations
3+ years of recent experience within Workday and Workday Payroll.
Experience using Report Writer within Workday.
Experience using a third-party administrator (TPA, such as OSV)
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets
Experience using NetSuite is a plus
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred
High integrity — you handle sensitive data with discretion every single day
A detail orientation that borders on obsessive (we mean that as a compliment)
Excellent communication skills
