Assists physicians with all basic endoscopic procedures including advanced and complex procedures requiring advanced training. Reprocesses procedural scopes, bedside, manual and HLD cleaning, maintenance and storage of the endoscopy equipment.Job Description:
Education: Required: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree Preferred: Completion of Advanced EUS/ERCP Training, the SGNA Associates Program and Advance Program Modules Licensure/Certification: Required: American Heart Association BLS Experience: Required: Two (2) years of experience as Endoscopy Technician or similar position Preferred: Endoscopy Technician experienceReports To: Manager or Director Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: Adult, Geriatric Blood Borne Pathogens: High PotentialSkills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations, Ability to operate general office equipment (i.e., computer, printer, scanner, telephone, etc.), Knowledge of general GI (Colonoscopy, EGD, EUS, DRCP, Enterescopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy, Single Balloon, Endo Stitch, Bravo, Halo, Clips) Procedures, ERCP, EUS, Reprocessing scopes and departmental equipment, Knowledge of the endoscopy environment regarding traffic patterns and integrity of the procedure table, Knowledge of theory and safety when using cautery modalities including monopolar, bipolar and argon plasma coagulation and their various probesEssential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Facilitates proper patient positioning prior to endoscopic procedures and recognizes weight limitation related to gurney, fluoroscopy table and body mechanics. 3. Successfully completes the GI Tech Competency Assessment and Validation, which includes diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. 4. Identifies surgical specimen(s) and prepares them for pathology, cytology, and microbiology; transfer to the nurse. 5. Collects and prepares pathology by performing touch preparations and cell blocks for advanced cases. 6. Reviews procedures and procures appropriate supplies prior to start of case; remains attentive to the progression of the procedure in order to anticipate physician's needs. 7. Supports patient education by explaining your role to patient(s). 8. Maintains aseptic technique according to the policies and procedures of Surgical Services. 9. Maintains orderly procedure table(s) and endoscopy procedural travel cart. 10. Prepares endoscopic instruments for cleaning and reprocessing per policy and manufacturers IFU. 11. Maintains current reprocessing equipment to include diagnostic run, chemical and biological monitoring; maintains records as required. 12. Assists with putting away supplies from deliveries. 13. Participates in efficient room turnover from patients/procedures. 14. Contributes to maximum efficiency of the endoscopy schedule in order to adhere to endoscopy start times. 15. Assists with cost effectiveness by using judgement when opening and using supplies. 16. Keeps current with new endoscopic techniques and equipment through participation in unit based and continuing education; attends gastroenterology themed in-services, seminars and conferences. 17. Enters patient information into the computer database (ProVation, Reprocessing Machines). 18. May be scheduled "on-call" for any emergent cases, evenings, week-ends and/or holidays as required by department. 19. Accepts responsibilities only within scope of practice; participates in the Universal Protocol (Time/Out). 20. Manages supply inventory by ensuring supplies is stored properly, on hand when requested by physician and not expired. 21. Performs others duties as assigned.
