Job Summary:
Works with patients that have been diagnosed with asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart attacks and other conditions. Educates patients about certain lifestyle changes that can help reduce health risks and improve quality of life. Helps patients understand and manage health problems. Serves as technical specialist on daily tasks and cases. Models/mentors and trains staff on technical skills. Provides input into hiring and promotion decisions for staff.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology, physiology or exercise science or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Training in nursing, exercise physiology, physical therapy or respiratory therapy: Preferred
- Three years' technical experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation certification: Preferred
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
Department Specific License/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
Essential Functions:
- Custom-designs and monitors appropriate exercise programs. Recommends interventions ranging from lifestyle changes to medical treatments.
- Identifies risk factors, like smoking, hypertension, poor diet and other lifestyle factors that may contribute to patient health problems.
- Educates and encourages patients to make healthier choices, like increasing physical activity, quitting smoking habits and engaging in a healthier diet.
- Ensures patients understand health condition and prescribed medical regimens.
- Assists in making recommendations to management on process improvement, new processes, tools and techniques, or development of new clinical services. Mentors and trains staff.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
