Job Description:

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive Social Work services for the Women's and Children's Program – primarily in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with inpatient cross coverage/support as needed to Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Birthing Suites. The Social Worker is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team and is required to have flexibility to address urgent care as the need arises and be able to provide in-depth psychosocial assessments, and treatment to families of critically ill babies.

Qualifications:

THP is committed to internal talent, and therefore priority will be given to internal applicants.

  • MSW and Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service workers - required
  • 2 - 3 years of experience within Women's and Children's areas
  • Competency in completing psychosocial assessments and developing/implementing a plan of intervention which addresses coping and adjustment to the NICU admission
  • Demonstrates experience with child welfare, issues of assault and abuse, mental health, substance abuse, and diversity
  • Experience in providing support to parents with post-partum depression/anxiety and/or grief and loss. 
  • Flexibility with the management of cases and planning i.e. surrogacy, adoption etc.
  • Excellent assessment, counseling, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates ability to work well both autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent project management abilities
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Superior ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Demonstrated facilitation and consensus-building skills
