Job Description:

Main Accountabilities:

Design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, prepare protection principle SLD, Schematics, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, Engineering hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc.,

Coordinate with Engineering Leads, Vendors, Tendering team, Project managers, Site execution team, SCM, Secondary and civil / steel design functions, consultants, end customers etc. and provide required support in each Project / Tender.

The candidate should have experience managing at least two (2) GIS or AIS substation projects across the full project lifecycle.

Specific Knowledge & Skillsets

  • Proficiency in CAD design tools and E3 (optional).
  • AIS/GIS substation equipment, selection criteria, ratings, and their operational purpose (66 kV & above).
  • Understanding PQ solutions (STATCOM/SVC) and special substations (Mobile SS/Prefab) – desirable
  • Tender Engineering - Tender Spec review, analyzing Client requirements, clarifications, RFQ preparations, Tender deliverables including finalization of layout and SLD interpreting tender inputs.
  • Project Engineering – Understand, interpret the project scope & customer specifications, Clarifications, deviations, identify risks, Quality process, etc.,
  • Substation Interface Engineering - Cross‑functional interfaces during design and execution phases.
  • Standards - IEC, IEEE standards related to secondary engineering, clauses and applications, reflects where necessary, negotiate client or vendor constructively.
  • Protection SLD of various bus configurations, Key protection functions, protection zones, blind spots, etc.,
  • Functional Design Standards/Descriptions
  • Signal list (SCMS, FMS, etc.,), Protection Trip matrix, Logics & Interlocks.
  • Selection of Relay ordering information from different IED vendors, identify protection requirements from ordering code, study and change wherever necessary.
  • Engineering CRP and secondary cubicle layouts.
  • LVAC & DC system distribution philosophy.
  • LVAC & LVDC power cable sizing and selection.
  • Selection of CT / VT parameters.

Activities Involved

Key activities include:

  • Protection SLD showing IEDs with protection and metering functions, key power system parameters, protection zones understanding Client requirements.
  • Understand, relate, review Vendor document / drawings technical requirements, co-ordinate, offer solutions (Control & Relay panels, LCC, Tx MB, RTCC, SCMS, Metering, FMS & LV Auxiliary System).
  • Read, prepare / review schematic diagrams and interface Control & Relay panel schemes with SCADA/SAS, Telecom, Metering, FMS, PQMS, WAMS & LV Auxiliary System.
  • Prepare / Review SAS System architecture in correlation with station communication requirements of CRP, metering, FMS, etc.,
  • Prepare Cable Schedule/Termination schedule, cable drum length estimation, detailed BOM & Wiring/Termination diagrams.
  • Design Auxiliary Power System - LVAC & DC load requirements, LV board SLD and panel requirements, Aux. Transformer, Battery & Charger Sizing & CB selectivity study.
  • CT/VT Sizing/adequacy check calculation, interpret and edit / customize parameters suitable for the system & Relay configuration support.
  • Technical data sheets verification of equipment’s. Knowledge of equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc.,
  • Ensure Ontime delivery of design deliverables & to be vigilant on project schedule impacts.
  • Responsible for obtaining customer approvals
  • Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation.
  • Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications.
  • Support and act as interface engineer during erection & commissioning.
  • Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage.
  • Value Engineering - Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.
  • Plan, implement, review and continuously improve quality system.
  • Ensure the Safety through design principles which meant for complete project lifecycle.
