Summary/Objective
The Accounting Clerk II supports the financial operations of Volunteers of America Northern Rockies by performing advanced accounting and clerical duties that ensure accurate financial reporting, proper stewardship of funds, and compliance with grant, donor, and regulatory requirements. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: general ledger support, bank & balance sheets reconciliations, fixed asset monitoring, A/P, A/R, and financial statement preparation.
Essential Functions
- Reconcile bank, and general ledger accounts monthly, and maintain schedules of account activities
- Prepare journal entries and support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Monitor expenditures to ensure appropriate coding and compliance with grant agreements, donor restrictions, and organizational policies
- Ensure appropriate allocation of expenditures and maintain allocation schedules for various programs and grants
- Assist with budget tracking for departments, programs, and grants
- Maintain accurate schedule of fixed assets and reconcile monthly. Calculate organizational depreciation expense
- Reconcile organizational credit card activities in Ramp and provide administrative support to users
- Assist in preparing financial reports for leadership and board review
- Help maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit financial policies and procedures
- Provide audit support by preparing schedules, pulling supporting documentation, and responding to information requests
- Work as a resource for accounts payable, cash receipts, and accounts receivable, and be able to provide backup support as needed
- Maintain written procedures regarding specific job duties and a checklist of the steps to be followed for each monthly accounting cycle
- Works with the accounting software system and other software tools to provide reports and information to Executive Leaders, Directors, and Managers
- Performs accounting and clerical functions in conformity with all GAAP and regulatory requirements

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool, as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Little to no travel is expected for this position.
Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent number of college credits) plus two years of accounting experience
or
- High School Diploma with four years of accounting experience
- Highly proficient with the use of Microsoft Suite applications and database software
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree plus two years of accounting or related field
