Summary:
The Specialist, Student Nutrition Services Facilities and Maintenance, will perform responsible supervisory duties directing the activities of subordinates and working with personnel involved in skilled trades, construction, maintenance, and/or repair activities.


SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS: Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities:
· Plans and schedules the assignments of crews in the manner best suited to accomplish the workload with available personnel and equipment.

· Analyzes and resolves complaints pertaining to personnel, services, and equipment within area of responsibility.

· Instructs, monitors, and consults with superiors and subordinates on complex work tasks and ensures compliance with plans, codes, standards, regulations, and operating instructions.

· Requisitions necessary tools, supplies, materials, and equipment to ensure proper amounts of products are available for job completion.

· Maintains operational records and data and prepares routing and special reports.

· Monitors and enforces adherence to regulations within all areas of operational control.

· Supervises assigned personnel, conducts annual performance appraisals, and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action.

· Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate action.

· Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations.

· Attends training required by the district to keep abreast of current technology.

· Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Nine (9) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, maintenance, or skilled trades, with two (2) years of related management or supervisory experience or nine (9) years of custodial supervision required.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Possession of a valid Florida Class E driver’s license and comply with district’s Safe Driver Plan.

Language Skills: Reads, analyzes and interprets all kinds of documents. Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community. Writes speeches and effectively presents to manager, the public and school board.

Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, and field of vision.

Lifting Demands: Up to 55 pounds.

Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity: 4, loud; extreme cold, extreme heat, wet/humid, work with cleaning chemicals; wear eye protection, vibration/impact; work with or near heavy equipment, proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to electrical shock, and working in high exposed places.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Eligibility for interview requires the successful passing of a written and/or physical test verifying knowledge of basic terms and/or tools and their use.
