Sentara Health is hiring a Supervisor, Security - Armed for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk, VA. This is a Full-Time position with an evening shift schedule.
Hours
Primarily Monday - Friday: 2pm - 10:30pm
Some weekends may be needed during periods of critical staffing, inclement weather, or other emergency situations
Overview
This position oversees the operations and success of a security department, supporting the security manager in ensuring safety. Armed Security Officers use discretion when employing their weapon, only in extreme situations when all non-violent options are exhausted. The role involves leadership, staff supervision, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring quality service. Responsibilities include scheduling staff, resolving customer service issues, managing resources, and contributing to goal achievement.

Sentara has implemented a Fit for Duty assessment to ensure that our officers meet a minimum standard of fitness
Officer must pass the Psychological Evaluation and Assessment conducted by the Sentara selected Service Provider
Officer must also obtain Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Associate's Degree (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure
Valid Drivers License with an acceptable driving record (Required)
Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required)
Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) within 90 days of hire (Required)
Experience
Four years of security experience (Required)
